Violin Nerds - and Ryan nerds - Pay Heed

Hello Scrapers,

So while we Scrapes are working away at new pieces I would like to point something out to any of you who are jonesing to nerd out on all things obscure and violin. I have another blog called UNDERGROUND VIOLIN at which I post various ramblings, videos, essays, audio whatever pertainig to radical and underground violin music of all types. I keep it separate so as to not bore the shit out of those Scrapes followers who don't care much for knowing the quantity of rosin used on a northern Ghanaian Gondze bow in 1867. For those of you who do:

Go here: http://undergroundviolin.blogspot.com.au

and sign up for the newsletter etc so you know when I get inspired to post something...which is quite often really. Latest post is about South African Zulu Township Jive fiddle music....incredible stuff!

I also place updates on my solo stuff and there's a page dedicated to that there as well.

GO ON

And while you're at it why not leave the occasional comment here and there. Be good to know who's reading this fucking thing...

ALSO ALSO ALSO Ryan has just brought out a collection of NEW SONGS in solo form HERE

While you're there order a Maryettas "Great Australian Rope Trick" tape before they're Long Gone.

Can't wait to Scrape your faces off at some upcoming gigs.

The Scrapes New Album in the Works

Dear Scrapes fiends,

We trust this message finds you all well. It's been a long time between posts on this website but so what.

So The Scrapes have been in hiding recording new pieces which will make up the new Scrapes album hopefully ready for release sometime this year. One of the tracks will most likely appear in a compilation of sorts for a label of sorts that we can't really tell you anything about now but we'll let you know what's going on when the time is right.

One thing we can tell you is that the new album will be a dark journey with a new percussive element (NOT a drummer) that will freak you all out more than ever. Along with this new direction are the usual sparse La Monte Young drone outs and doom of the sexiest variety but all progressing along into uncharted territory. Trust us....you've never heard anything like some of this shit before....

In the future we will also be playing some gigs around Brisbane and hopefully elsewhere. If you're overseas and following us please do get in touch via email planetofthescrapes (at) gmail (dot) com and buy us a plane ticket or 5 so we can come and blow your minds.

If you haven't already google copies of our albums Electric Mourning Blues and Kali Yuga Sunrise and try and pick one up from a trusty record store as soon there will be none! We still have Kali Yuga vinyl in stock at the POTS store so stop on by and order if you need it.

See you at some gigs.....

The Archdrude Speaks on Adam Cadell Solo

Hello all,

So as this blog gets increasingly neglected I must implore all to look up The Scrapes on facebook for more direct and constant updates. We definitely have some things coming up in the New Year!

So on a Scrapes related note there is a gig happening here in Brisbane tonight with yours truly Adam Cadell and the down downerhome cuntry of Mr. Jackson Reid Briggs of Nikko and The Maryettas infame.

2 Jan
The End
Up From The Swamp - Adam Cadell + Jackson Briggs
8pm
FREEEEE

Don't fucking miss it. And here's another reason why. Mssr Julian Cope el Archdrude supreme has run across my solo works which you can find HERE for a small donation or even free if you're a cheap bastard. He's given me a very nice little write up in his New Years Drudion over HERE

Here's an excerpt: "Anticipate instead the rural joys of Henry Flynt’s bucolic hoedown-a-thons but enlarged into La Monte Young levels of monotony, or imagine even an unaccompanied Tony Conrad embarking on a Faustless OUTSIDE THE DREAM SYNDICATE. For this single meditation remains at all times on course, even when Mr Cadell’s instrument takes on a curious French horn timbre." Julian Cope, Head Heritage

Here's the poster for the gig tonight:

A New Transmission....Barzakh....

Hello Scrapes fiends,
So after vast travels through the heartland of voduns we managed to summon the Saturday Baron...he gave us this new non-song from the world between life and death...Barzakh...available here:

This, and the 3 previous pieces, will be available online for another 30 days...after that it will disappear indefinitely as we summon new pieces to complete the tome. It will reemerge in the diabolic form of a physical release sometime in 2014...further transmissions will enlighten all...

As always we must strongly iterate that all online purchases aid us in producing more scraping sounds....

UPCOMING PLANET OF THE SCRAPES AKTIONS:

23 Nov. - Adam Cadell solo Radical Violin- QLD Conservatorium Basel Jones Orchestral Hall, South Bank, Brisbane, Australia - 6pm, $10

29 Nov - Adam Cadell + Tony Irving duo - Sonic Masala, Brisbane - details TBC

Ethiopian scraping and jumping...

Helloooo all. Been a long time between posts sorry. Been travelling around Ghana and neighbouring countries seeing vodouns priests, sampling the moonshine, scrambling through jungle and tearing around sprawling urban wasteland on the backs of motorbikes...soon I will make my way to Senegal but I won't be making it to Ethiopia anytime soon to the best of my knowledge. Regardless I just discovered this video and felt compelled to share it. Seeeeriooous. Very similar in some ways to the Gonje of West Africa of which I am a student but bigger and doomier...the beats and so on are very different and seriously interesting...and I think we need dancers like that for all future Scrapes performances...on that front some performances in Aus are to be announced soon!
